About National Gallery of Art

The National Gallery of Art, NGA, was established as a parastatal by Decree No. 86, 1993 and the 2004 (Amendment Act). This was in fulfillment of the provisions of Nigeria’s Cultural Policy launched in 1988 in accordance with the recommendations of the committee of patrons of the World Decade for Cultural Development (WDCD) approved by UNESCO. This decision was later reaffirmed by the report of the Vision 2010 Committee to which the National Gallery of Art presented a memorandum in 1997 and the Ahmed Joda Panel in 2000.

Meet The Director General, Ahmed Bashir Sodangi

Ahmed Bashir Sodangi, from Katsina State Nigeria . He holds a Master's degree in Management and International Business from The Birmingham City University, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Management) from the American University of Nigeria.

Ahmed has accumulated a wealth of experience, over the course of his career, where he has been shown to posses unmatched skill sets in negotiation, team building, leadership, strategic planning, and management.

 

The Director Special Duties NGA, Representing The DG at World Intellectual Property Day (WIPO)

The National Gallery of Art  joined the World Intellectual Property Organization yesterday to celebrate ‘The World Intellectual Property Day’, observed to create more awareness about intellectual property rights and why they should be safeguarded. This year, the WIPO Nigeria Office celebrated this event with a National Design Competition in collaboration with  the National Gallery of Art amongst other activities. The Director, Special Duties, National Gallery of Art, Mr. Magnus Ojeonu, represented the Director General, National Gallery of Art.

 

2024 Retreat for the Ministry and its Agencies

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy held the 2024 Retreat for the Ministry and its agencies from Wednesday, 24th April to Thursday, 25th April, 2024 at the main conference hall, Federal Ministry of Education, 2nd Floor, Federal Secretariat, Phase III, Abuja. In attendance were the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa; the Permanent Secretary, James Sule; Dr. Sanusi Ohiare who represented the SA to the President on Policy and Coordination; Okor Odey who represented the Chairman of ICPC. The Director General of the NGA,

 Mr. Ahmed Sodangi and the other eight Heads of Agencies under the Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy as well as Directors of the Ministry and some Directors of the National Gallery of Art were present at the event. Presentations were made during the retreat on the presidential priorities and Ministerial deliverables. Also addressed were issues regarding due process and procedures within the public service. The Ministry and its agencies will be aligning strategies to advance growth in the Art, Culture and Creative industry while working towards actualising the “Destination 2030” initiative and supporting the “Renewed Hope” of Mr. President.

Onobrakpeya, Okundaye, others honoured at NGA Awards

For Onobrakpeya, it was a double celebration as he was just honoured by Georgia State Assembly, United States for his exemplary career as artist and role model.Also honoured was Chief Nike Okundaye, who received the Outstanding Visual Arts Personality of the Year Award. Mrs Okundaye is very adept in textile designs in adire and batik.

SNA honours NGA DG Ivara
