The National Gallery of Art @nganigeria joined the World Intellectual Property Organization yesterday to celebrate ‘The World Intellectual Property Day’, observed to create more awareness about intellectual property rights and why they should be safeguarded.
The theme for this year’s celebration is IP and the SDG’s: Building our common future with innovation and Creativity
This year, the WIPO Nigeria Office celebrated this event with a National Design Competition in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art amongst other activities.
Winning Art works from an earlier competition were also exhibited. Certificates and gifts were presented to winners; three from each category (Primary, Secondary and Professional).The Art teachers who assisted the students with their works were also given scholarships. The Director, Special Duties, National Gallery of Art,Mr. Magnus Ojeonu, represented the Director General, National Gallery of Art.
The D.G., Mr Ahmed Sodangi,@officialabsodangi in his welcome address said, social and economic impact of the Visual Art is critical to national development.National Gallery of Art sees collaborative engagements with other agencies as an opportunity to apply the role of the creative enterprise in national development . The relationship between Visual Arts and Intellectual Property (IP) is of great benefit to the creative class, as it creates a platform to generate wealth through marketing of human ingenuity.
As an Agency of government, NGA understands the importance of human resource development through capacity building initiatives like this National Design Competition.The efforts of the WIPO Nigeria office in creating this avenue for the cross fertilization of creative ideas is commendable. The expected outcome of this competition is an elevated mind that is stretched to new levels of cognitive function for optimal productivity.
