NGA hosts 3rd Abuja International Art Fair
The National Gallery of Art (NGA) on Monday, 12th May, 2025, hosted its 3rd International Art Fair at the Exhibition Pavilion in Abuja, themed “The Intersection of Treasures.” The event brought together Nigerian and International artists, highlighting the relationship between indigenous and foreign artists.
Director-General, National Gallery of Art, (NGA), Ahmed Bashir Sodangi emphasized the significance of this exhibition in his opening remarks, noting that it facilitates the exchange of ideas and expertise among professionals from diverse continents. “In this edition of the International Art fair, NGA is bringing together indigenous and foreign artists, thus facilitating a convergence of professionals from different continents of the world. This synergy can only produce an entrepreneurial package that will be the delight of Art connoisseurs, the result of course, is what we are all witnessing today”, he said.
The art fair promotes cross-cultural relationships between Nigerian and International artists while building a dynamic art community. By showcasing creativity and providing a platform for artists, the event presents opportunities for empowerment and growth. Under Sodangi’s leadership, the NGA has implemented reforms to reposition Nigerian contemporary art, focusing on innovation.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the representative of the Honorable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hanatu Musa Musawa; President of Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and Chairman of the occasion, Muhammad Suleiman; His Excellency, Sven Baera, Norwegian Ambassador; Representative of the Czech Embassy; Chief of Army Staff represented by Gen. Onoja; Corp Marshall, Federal Road Safety Corps represented by Mr A.U. Etuechere; Director General CBAAC, Hon. Over thirty exhibitors participated in the two-day art fair, featuring works by artists such as Imal Silva, Anila Adnan, and Ifesinachi Nwanyanwu amongst others. The exhibition was curated by renowned curator Mr. Mufu Onifade, Director of Curatorial Services Department, National Gallery of Art.
