School Children showcase their artistic talents as National Gallery of Art host the Children-in-Art talent hunt and exhibition programme across Nigeria .

It was a display of artistic talents as secondary and primary school students across the country showcased their creativity at the just concluded National Gallery of Art (NGA) Annual Children-in-Art Talent Hunt and exhibition. The program which holds every 27th May across the 25 outstations of the NGA is designed not just to celebrate the children on children’s day but most importantly, to discover and nurture their creative prowess in art.

Every year, the children are given a theme that reflects on some socio-political, environmental and economic issues in the country. They are expected to demonstrate their understanding of these themes through the various genres of art.

This year’s edition had a unique twist, with three themes that reflected the diverse concerns and issues affecting different regions of the country. The themes were: “Creativity in the Eyes of the Nigerian Child: From Waste to Wealth,” “Harmony in Diversity: Art as a Unifying Force,” and “Celebrating Our Environment Through Visual Art.” These themes encouraged children to think creatively, promote unity and peaceful coexistence, and express their thoughts and ideas about environmental conservation and sustainability.

By providing this platform for young artistic talents to shine, the NGA seeks to empower young minds, promote sustainability, and raise awareness about pressing issues affecting the nation through art. The Art Exhibition and Talent Hunt is one of the NGA’s flagship National programmes.

The exhibition featured a wide range of artworks created by children from various schools. It also showed the boundless potential of Nigerian children and the importance of art in shaping their young minds. Some of the highlights of the event also included various dance performances, cultural displays, dance competitions, drama, poetry recitation, choreography, quiz competitions and presentation of prizes to various winners.

The NGA’s effort to promote art and creativity among children is commendable, and the organization is committed to nurturing the artistic talents of Nigerian children.
